- INSTRUCTIONS
- These instructions are brief, although they should be enough to enable
- you to use !PCOrder. A fuller description can be found in the file
- {'Instrucs'} which also explains how you can add an order for 'ZIP' files
- to one for other discs.
-
- !PCOrder is intended to make it easier for you to order PC 'ZIP' files
- from APDL and it is very easy to use. When the program loads two windows
- will open. One shows the total cost of your order and a series of
- buttons corresponding to the sections of the catalogue. If you click on
- one of these a window will open with a list of all the items available
- from that section. The second shows all the files you have selected. If
- you close either or both of these then clicking {SELECT} on the PCOrder
- icon opens the main window and {ADJUST} opens the selected list window.
-
- If you want to order by {Credit Card} then you should enter your card
- number and expiry date in the {Address Window}. If you do this you {must
- sign} your printed order or, if you send your order on disc, you should
- include a short, {signed}, note authorising us to debit your card.
-
- If you do send your order on disc you must send it as a {Text} file not as
- an Order file.
-
- The button marked {Use HD (1.44Mb)} if selected will ensure that your
- order will be delivered on high density 1.44Mb discs. The program will
- detect if you have a HD drive and set this automatically, and a message
- to this effect will appear during initialisation. If you {do} have a HD
- drive but {don't} want programs on HD discs then make sure you switch
- this option off.
-
- To select an item double-click on it's name or anywhere on it's
- description. The name, price, and the file from which it was chosen will
- appear in a small window. To de-select an item double-click on the item
- in the small window and it will be shown 'feint' to indicate that it is
- deselected. You can double-click on it again to reselect it.
-
- If you want to look for a particular item then double-click {ADJUST}
- anywhere in the viewing window or select Search from the menu and a
- {'Search'} window will open. All searches are case insensitive and operate
- forward from the top line of the window. The '#' symbol is used as a
- wildcard to match any character.
-
- If you click {MENU} on the main windows a menu will open. One item on
- this is {'Address'}. Click on this and a window will open in which you
- can enter your name and address. Other items are {'Recalculate'}, which
- will recalculate the cost of your order, {'Clear'}, which clears your
- entire selection and {'Compact'} will delete any de-selected 'feint'
- items from the list.
-
- {'Sort'} will sort the list into alphabetical order. This will always be
- done automatically before a file is Saved or Printed. This also groups
- items chosen from the same file together, and so ,kes it easier for you
- to check that you have chosen the correct items and all the ones you
- want. As well as sorting the list any duplicates which you may have
- inadvertently chosen will be deleted and the total cost re-calculated.
- Any de-selected items will be moved to the end of the list.
-
- {'Print'} sends your order to the printer after displaying your name and
- address and asking you to confirm that it's correct. If you forgot to
- enter it this window will be blank which acts as a reminder. {'Save text'}
- saves your order as a text file. You can use this to check your order
- before printing it or to add any items not covered by the !Order program,
- for example, PC programs, floppy discs and boxes, etc. {If the printout is
- 'double spaced'} then you probably have your printer wrongly configured -
- click on {'Linefeed'} on the main menu so that it isn't 'ticked' and this
- should correct the problem.
-
- {'Save order'} saves your order as a special file which can be reloaded
- into !PCOrder. You can use this if you want to stop before you have
- completed your order and continue later. You can't actually reload this
- file into !PCorder while it's running, you must double-click on the file
- and !Order will start up with the file loaded.
-
- If you don't have a printer you could send your file to APDL on disc. If
- you do please send it as a Text file, not an Order file. Don't just put
- the disc in a normal envelope, use a jiffy bag or some other protective
- packaging. {Please also include a slip of paper with your name and address}
- telling me that your order is on the disc. Discs do sometimes develop
- errors and if this happens and the disc is unreadable then if you haven't
- included your name and address I can't contact you to tell you.
